Therapy Myths in South Asian Culture

Have you ever considered individual counseling? South Asian mental health is often a taboo topic, and we tend to have a lot of misconceptions about therapy in our communities as a result. In this episode we dispel the following misconceptions:

  • Only those who are sick or ill seek out therapy, it’s a ‘first world’ act
  • You should be able to talk to your friends/family instead of a therapist
  • Therapy doesn’t work (plus, a bit about discussing therapy with your family)
  • A therapist will judge you
